In the near future, the age of the Internet has brought about the invention of the "Persocon" - mechanical humanoids (mostly female) that serve a variety of functions, from being a personal digital assistant, to doing housework. Poverty-stricken Hideki Motosuwa can barely put himself through cram school, much less afford a Persocon. Luck shines on him one day, however, as he finds one discarded in the trash. But having a Persocon as strange (and as cute) as "Chii" may be more than he's able to handle. |

Chi
Chii is the childlike and innocent Persocom Hideki found tied up in the trash one day. After Hideki finally manages to take Chii home(she weighs a lot) and turns her on he finds that Chii had 'NO DATA' which shouldn't be because if a Persocom has no data then it shouldn't be able to move, talk or do anything at all! Hideki, with the help of his friend, try to find something about Chii but have no luck untill Hideki takes Chii to a boy named Minoru who decides that Chii may be a 'Chobit', a Persocom that can think for itself, an artificail intelligence.

Hideki Motosuwa
Hideki is the main character. His life isn't too great either. He's a virgin, he get's no allowence from his parents and he can't get into college but when he finds Chii he thinks things have changed. Little does he know how more complicated things will become. Hideki is often described as 'a good guy' which he is. He treats Chii fairly, like she's a real person and seems to care for her like she's a real person. Even though he's still a virgin(^^;) he's very good at sorting out love problems, much to everyone's surprise.
